This piece is a modern reproduction of a classical Hellenistic tetradrachm, originally struck under the name of Alexander the Great or his successors during the 4th–3rd centuries BCE. The obverse features a dynamic portrait of Heracles (Hercules) wearing the lion-skin headdress, a symbol of strength and divine favor, closely associated with Alexander himself. This powerful imagery served not only as homage to the mythic hero but also as political propaganda, linking the Macedonian king to divine lineage and heroic legacy.
The reverse depicts Zeus enthroned, holding an eagle and a scepter, with the Greek inscription "ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ" ("Of King Alexander"). This design encapsulates the imperial authority and religious symbolism of the era. The iconography and inscriptions remained consistent across Alexander’s widespread empire, from Greece to Asia, reinforcing the unity and legitimacy of his rule. While this item is not an original ancient coin, it presents authentic iconographic detail and proportions, making it a valuable illustrative example for educational, decorative, or introductory numismatic purposes.
